I was born in Bakersfield, Ca and moved to the East Bay Area of California when I was 4. My father was a union sheet metal worker, my mother was a public school bus driver. Our family was and still is a blue collar family. Get up early, work hard, no excuses, and take responsibility sums up my upbringing. At an early age baseball became my passion. I spent almost all my free time watching MLB games on television, playing wiffle-ball with my neighborhood friends after school, or participating in youth baseball leagues. When I graduated high school I was very fortunate to receive a full-ride baseball scholarship. My passion for the game of baseball provided me the opportunity to obtain my B.S. Degree from San Jose State University in 1994.
Upon graduation I was unsure about which career field to pursue so I accepted a labor position with a custom pool cover company installing automatic pool covers. Shortly after I met the most important people in my career and life in the insurance and investment industry…which was good news because installing pool covers was brutal and not really anything that gave me the fire in the belly to wake up and do.
I became an insurance / investment advisor with Hartford Life and Annuity. I was blessed to have a great mentor and friend in Phil Woolsey early in my career and life. I could never repay him for everything he has provided me in my life. Within my first year I was leading team of financial service professionals. One day someone walked through our office door for an interview, and little did I know he would become my best friend and business partner for the remainder of my career. J.M. Ryerson and I decided to build a successful financial services company across the U.S.
Part way through our journey we decided to merge our business with a much larger company in the same industry. However, five years into that, we knew it wasn’t for us and it was time to move on. During our time with this company JM and I met another incredibly talented, hard-working, like-minded and overall great person in Chris Reid. In 2014 all 3 of us decided to walk away and join Appreciation Financial.
The best is yet to come, and collectively we get to implement over 45 years of combined industry experience to better the lives of our people and clients alike. I feel lucky to say that I get to work with my best friends every day in a career field in which I have a genuine passion.
I have 3 incredible children, Allie, Trevor and Nova and we all reside in Roseville, CA. They are my true inspiration in life!
